Peach and date chutney

When golden queen peaches became cheap, we bought up to make peach chutney. This chutney comes out somewhat like a sticky Indian mango chutney. I did not really follow a recipe so the measurements are more guidelines…


  • 1kg peaches, skinned, stoned and cut into chunks
  • 2 onions diced (either red or white)
  • 2 cloves of garlic diced
  • Nob of fresh ginger, peeled and cut into thin strips
  • 500g diced dates
  • 500g sultanas
  • 750g brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp chilli flakes
  • 2 tbsp salt


  1. Caramalise the onions in a large pot over a medium heat
  2. Add the garlic, ginger and peaches and stir through
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients, dissolving the sugar through the vinegar and bringing out the juice from the peaches.
  4. Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally until the mixture has reduced
  5. Sterilise your jars and ladle in the mixture
